My name is Samantha Nilsson. I am a Therapist, Social worker, advocate for body kindness, and a self-proclaimed body image warrior! I have always wanted to help people and be an advocate and supporter for personal self-growth, but until a few years into my professional life, I wasn’t quite sure what that looked like for me.
My health is multifaceted, personal, and my own. I, myself, have struggled with body image concerns for most of my life, as I know so many other people do on a daily basis. Throughout my own journey, I became increasingly passionate about changing the conversation in our society about food, exercise, and our bodies. I have seen the benefits that self-compassion and self-care has on a person’s overall health and wellness. I truly believe that by engaging in positive thinking and activities that promote doing things for ourselves that help us thrive and feel our best, rather than torture and restrict, we can learn to live a more balanced and satisfied life.
As a contributor to the “In Our Own Skin” collection, I hope to not only share my own struggles with body image, but also to provide others with the knowledge and tools to thrive in the body that they were given. Let’s ignore society's standards of beauty and perfection, and decide for ourselves what a healthy, beautiful body can be.
