What I Live For
A couple months ago I was hanging out with a bunch of my close friends. We were sitting around chatting, eating, and listening to some music. I was happily playing DJ. I put on a chill playlist for a nice little afternoon and a song by Lauv came on, who I happen to love. Love, love, love Lauv.
One of my friends looked and me and goes, “You know, you always play great music. Can you give me some ideas of some music I can listen to? I've listened to Beyoncé non-stop for years on end. I listen to all these women who can belt— I need some new male artists. Can you hook me up and give me some ideas?”
And I was like... YEAHHH, of course, I can. THIS. IS. WHAT. I. LIVE. FOR.
I take great pride in my knowledge of music, the variety of artists I know, the genres through the decades. I am really proud of my old school 160-gig iPod classic, so when people ask me “Hey, can you share what you know with me?” I'm in my glory.
I love sharing music with people. It's my favorite thing to do. I have to like control myself sometimes because I feel like it's obnoxious to be like, “Oh, did you hear about this person? Have you heard this song? Check out what I found.” I get so much excitement out of it, so when he asked me I was like, “Totally. Absolutely.”
Then I thought, You know what? why don't I pull this into the blog?
I haven't written in a while. There's been a lot going on, as I know there is with everyone, but the formats that I've done in the past have gotten a little challenging. But this is, to me, kind of like the root of music and what I love about music. Sharing it with people and having it be not only a way to communicate and express yourself but also a way for me to share my passion with other people.
So I'm going to try this out. Inspired by my friend's request for some male artists, I put a little playlist/sampling together here. These are a few artists I love and have been listening to a lot lately:

I also really want to hear what you are interested in. Maybe there's an artist that you love and you want to learn about artists that are similar. Maybe you are into Beyoncé and you want to learn about more soulful female singers.
Maybe you're looking to expand your horizons, you've heard one song that has an indie/folk vibe and you realize, you know, I don't really know much about indie/folk— what can you share with me, where can I start?
Maybe there's a genre you like, like quirky rock music, and you want to hear some new bands, or even just new songs by bands that you know already but haven't yet delved into their work all that much.
You know, there are a lot of ways that I can share music with you and different avenues that we can go down here, so I want to hear what YOU are interested in. I want to be of service to you, because this, sharing music, is my favorite thing. Let me know what you're interested in, let me know what you want to hear, and I will deliver as best as I can.
Stay tuned for our questionnaire about music, where you can share more about your taste in music and what new sounds you're looking for.
